ANIL BIHARI LITHOGRAPHS
July10, 2010 - July31, 2010

Both Santiniketan and Baroda have an elaborate studio facility for younger group of students, who come from different parts of the country for specializations in printmaking techniques. We come across very few artists who are able to explore printing in lithography specially by working in the indigenous litho stones. The direct rendering with crayon and tusch ink and also being aware of the tactile effects which are typically inherent in the litho stone requires a lot of skill. The desirable final print is only possible if the artist is fully acquainted with the processing of the stone surface having the knowledge of suitable ink application.

Way back some 15 years ago, I was amazed to get acquainted with a young printmaker from Bihar who imbibed into himself brilliiant printing skills during a national workshop of printmaking at Chitrakala Parishath, Bangalore. The precise and dedicated commitment this budding artist reflected in his works was commendable. Though there have been great masters both from Bengal and Baroda who have explored inspiringly the use of litho technique for their creative endeavor. Anil, specially brings in a new refreshing lustre. His works stand out as they are clean from the impurities of the confused techniques practiced by many contemporary printmakers, around.
